Leonora Carrington (b.1917)British-born artist, surrealist painter and novelist who emigrated from Europe in 1941, to settle in Mexico City a year later where she continues to live and work today.
Remedios Varo (1908 - 1963)Spanish-born Mexican surrealist painter who fled to Paris during the Spanish Civil War, was forced into exile following the Nazi occupation of France and moved to Mexico City in 1941.
Kati Horna (1912 - 2000)Born to Hungarian parents in Budapest, Horna emigrated to Paris in 1933, worked as a photojournalist across Europe during the Spanish Civil War and settled in Mexico in 1939.
