Pallant House Gallery is delighted to be working with the Chichester-based Arts Organisation ‘I Am Joy’ this summer to produce a series of murals inspired by the iconic paintings of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. The murals will then be displayed at Pallant House Gallery to coincide with the forthcoming exhibition Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera: Masterpieces from the Gelman Collection (9 July-2 October 2011).
The workshops, which will take place at The Boys Club, Little London, will run from 12pm-5pm on Monday 8 through to Friday 12 August. Using the imaginative imagery from works by Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera as inspiration, Children and adults alike can come and make their own mark on the panels which will then go on display in the courtyard at Pallant House Gallery.
In sponsoring I Am Joy, Pallant House Gallery is pleased to support an organisation that has gained a reputation for delivering creative events for young people in and around Chichester. Joe Worthington, co-founder of I Am Joy said "the partnership with Pallant House Gallery is a positive step for I Am Joy as it strengthens our community ethos" and speaking of the workshops, he said "The past four years have produced some beautiful artworks, sculptures, performances, films, music and smiles. This year we guarantee to keep young minds alive with creativity".
Pallant House Gallery will also be helping I Am Joy in shortlisting works for an Open Art competition, for which artists from all backgrounds are invited to submit works for an exhibition at the historic Guildhall from Monday 8 to Sunday 14 August.
