Sunday 3rd April 2011
Pallant House Gallery is celebrating Mother’s Day in style
on Sunday 3 April with free entry for mums when accompanied by their offspring (whatever the age) and a special offer of free afternoon tea at the acclaimed Gallery restaurant Field and Fork for mum when accompanied by two paying family members.
As well as the permanent collection of Modern British Art, visitors can treat mum to an opportunity to see the work of the ground-breaking designer Lucienne Day in an exhibition of her revolutionary textiles, alongside furniture designed by her partner Robin Day in Robin and Lucienne Day: Design and the Modern Interior (until 26 June 2011). Alongside is a display of memorabilia marking 60 years since the 1951 Festival of Britain which launched the Day's careers. A Tonic to the Nation: The 1951 Festival of Britain runs until 8 May 2011.
When visitors have had their cultural fill, they can treat mums to afternoon tea with a luxurious twist at the Gallery restaurant Field & Fork. Mums can indulge in a free Gallery afternoon tea (worth £13.95) when joined by two paying family members. For an extra special treat, the restaurant is also offering a deluxe Champagne Afternoon Tea at £21.00 per person. Champagne will also be available by the glass on the day for £6, a perfect way to toast the day! Prebooking is required for afternoon teas, and visitors will need to specify which Teas are required. Afternoon teas are from 2.30pm - 4.30pm. The restaurant closes at 5pm. Please pre-book by calling 01243 770827.
For something special to mark the day, there is a choice of unique and charming gifts on offer at the Pallant House Gallery Gift Shop. A range of Mother’s Day gifts are available to buy including a useful piece of art in the form of a Lucienne Day Tea Towel. Made in Ireland using 100% linen, the tea towels are available in four different designs and cost only £16 each.
