Half term and National Family week get an artistic boost this spring with free admission to one of the best collections of Modern British Art in the country on Saturday 4th June. As well as the current season of exciting temporary exhibitions, visitors can enjoy a range of family-friendly activities and take part in an exciting raffle with fantastic prizes from headline sponsors De’Longhi, including a Kenwood Chef Titanium (worth £500) and an Icona Pump (worth £150). All fundraising events will raise money for Partners in Art, Pallant House Gallery’s innovative project which pairs artists with support needs with a volunteer.
Pallant House Gallery's last Free Day in February proved how much visitors enjoy family-friendly events at the gallery. With over 1000 visitors and £860 raised at the last free entry day, Prue Sokell, a volunteer for Partners in Art, feels that this one will be no exception and says; ‘We want this Free Day to be an even more fun event for all the family, and show what Pallant House Gallery can offer'.
When families have had their cultural fill, there are plenty of opportunities to get creative, with a range of exciting activities on offer. Visitors can dress up using a range of fancy dress and props in ‘Fame in the Frame' and have their portrait in a frame photographed by award-winning artist and volunteer Maria Riese. Visitors can dress up as a famous artist or celebrity and can take home a print costing just £5.
Also on the day are badge-making and face painting (£2) and a free ‘Know the Artist' Quiz, where visitors can identify artists and compete to win a prize. For children over five, there is also a Family Lantern-making Workshop running from 10am-4pm, where visitors can make lanterns (£5) to carry at the Chichester Festivities NEWS event on Saturday 25th June. (Booking is essential for lantern-making workshops, please call 01243576227 to reserve).
