Painting into Sculpture and Installation (Part One)
Saturday 3rd December, 10:15am – 12.45pm
A short two-part project for young artists (13+) exploring the Collections. Beginning with a fun and lively discussion sharing our imaginative reactions to some of the abstract paintings, consider how ideas of space, colour, shape and scale are expressed by the various artists. Back in the studio, focussing on a central painting in the collection: Howard Hodgkin's Granchester Road, experiment with exciting ideas and unusual materials to find ways to make individual and colourful sculptures about our own personal space at home. Painting into Sculpture and Installation (Part Two)
Sunday 4th December, 11:00am – 1.30pm
A short two-part project for young artists (13+) exploring the Collections. This session will focus on the collaborative process to make an installation. As a group, we will experiment with transforming the studio space into a walk-in painting using a variety of materials - to the music of 1975 (which was when Howard Hodgkin painted Granchester Road). It may be possible to bring some objects in from home to include in our final installation which, at the end of the project, we may briefly open for a private viewing. We will also make reference to the immersive coloured environment photographs of Anna Fox and considering the found-object sculpture and installations of artist Jessica Stockholder. Free
