Now in its third year the Open Art Competition once again brings together these two diverse Chichester-based organisations for an exciting community project. The competition will culminate in an exhibition of short-listed works in Pallant House Gallery.
Why take part?
This year it will cost £5.1 million to run St Wilfrid's Hospice and only 15% of this funding comes from the NHS; the rest has to be found through independent and voluntary sources. By taking part in this competition not only will you be in with the chance of exhibiting your work at a prestigious gallery but you will also be making a valuable contribution to the work of St Wilfrid's Hospice. The entry fees for the competition and 30% of every sale will go directly to St Wilfrid's Hospice. Entrants will receive 50% of the sale of their work. Outside In, a groundbreaking project set up by Pallant House Gallery, will receive the remaining 20% of the proceeds.
About St Wilfrid's Hospice
St Wilfrid's Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for people who have advanced cancer, Motor Neurone Disease and other terminal illnesses. At any one time they care for around 210 people in their catchment area in West Sussex as well as supporting friends and family. Services provided include a 14 bed inpatient unit, day care facilities, an education unit, nurse specialists based in the community and a Hospice at Home service.
About Pallant House Gallery
Pallant House Gallery holds one of the best collections of 20th Century art in the world including works by Peter Blake, Walter Sickert, Lucian Freud, Richard Hamilton and Henry Moore. A unique combination of an award-winning contemporary extension and Queen Anne listed townhouse, the Gallery also hosts a range of regularly changing international exhibitions throughout the year alongside a lively and varied events, learning and outreach programme.
About Outside In
Outside In was set up by Pallant House Gallery in 2006 to provide a platform for artists who are marginalised due to health, disability or because their work does not fit a prescribed norm. As part of its activity Outside In organises a biennial open exhibition which was held initially in 2007 for Sussex-based artists and in 2009 for artists in the South of England.
How to enter
The Competition is open to artists of all ages* and images of artwork in any medium may be submitted as long as the original artwork is no more than 80cm at its largest point.
A selection panel will shortlist up to 60 works and from these an exhibition of around 40 works will be curated. The team of judges will select a first, second and third place from the exhibition as well as two highly commended works.
Artists may submit up to three art works each and the cost of entry per piece is just £15 (£10 concessions)
